Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club – Venue Spotlight

Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club was founded in 2003, and quickly arose through the ranks to become one of the top golf venues in Southern China. The venue will play host to The Southern Junior, this year’s season opening event. The event takes place October 29-31 and is sure to light a fire behind those trying to get out to an early lead in the Junior Order of Merit rankings early in the season – giving them ample time to improve throughout the season.

With Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club being a fresh venue for this year’s edition of The Southern Junior – the roots behind the name of the event remain the same.

Since its’ opening in 2003, Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club has been honored as one of Southern China’s elite golf venues. It was named “China’s Best New Club” in 2003, in 2007, it was named “Top Ten Club in South China” and in 2012 and 2015 it was named “The Most Popular South Course”. Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club has hosted a number of professional events including two China Tour events. While the venue has 27 championship holes, JGTA stars will be competing on the Troon Nine and the Nairn Nine.

Here are a few holes to watch at this year’s Southern Junior:

Hole 3
The Par-5 3rd hole at Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club is rated the most difficult on the Troon nine. Measuring at a short 514 yards for the Boy’s and 440 yards for the Girl’s, but don’t let the yardage fool you. Accuracy is key on this hole, as water lines the right side in its entirety. Well placed bunkers line the left side landing areas, catching errant tee shots from those nervous of the water. Par is a good score on this demanding hole.

Hole 4
The short par-4 4th hole at Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club tempts players to cut the corner over water for an easy birdie or to have a look at eagle, dependent on wind conditions. Cutting the corner will leave medium-length players with a short pitch into the green while longer players with the wind at their back may have a chance to bounce a tee-shot close. The green is well guarded with bunkers and water again lines the right side of this hole in its entirety.

Hole 14
The par-5 14th hole is rated the most difficult hole on the Nairn Nine at Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club. Similar to the par-5 3rd hole, you cannot underestimate this hole’s short distance. The fairway pinches at the landing area off the tee and is guarded by two large bunkers. Player’s second shot and approach shot will need to avoid water along the left.

Hole 16
Hole 16 is the longest par-3 on the course and it is the only hole that doesn’t have a water feature at Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club. The hole features a narrow green that is protected by two large bunkers. Players who hit their tee-shots long or right may find themselves pitching from well-placed runoff areas.
