The Stage is Set
A tournament founded in 1955 – the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is rich in history and has proven itself to be one of the greatest weeks of the year in Women’s golf. This year, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is being held at Kemper Lakes Golf Club in Kildeer, Illinois. Kemper Lakes is setup to play to 6,741 yards and a star-studded field awaits their turn to tee it up on Thursday.
When we say that the field is star-studded, we mean it. Every player in the top-100 on the LPGA’s official money list is competing. The first player in the field to watch is AJGA alumna Danielle Kang of San Fransisco, California. Kang won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2017 and returns to defend her title. Kang’s win was the first LPGA win of her career. She has four top-15 finishes in 2018 and is sure to make some noise this weekend.
Next on the list of players to watch is Ariya Jutanugarn from Bangkok, Thailand. A decorated AJGA alumna, Jutanugarn has 11 top-10 finishes in 2018, including wins at the Kingsmill Championship presented by GEICO and a little tournament called the Women’s U.S. Open. She is currently in second on the Rolex Rankings, has 9 LPGA Tour victories and 47 top-10 finishes in her career.
AJGA alumna Minjee Lee of Perth, Australia is a player to keep your eyes on this weekend as well. She has seven top-10 finishes in 2018 including a win at the LPGA Volvik Championship and she is fresh off of a T3 finish last week at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G.
In total, 29 major champions with a combined 62 Major championship wins are in the field. This may be the strongest field that the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship has ever seen, and it will surely be exciting.
