The Southern Junior taking place at Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club in Southern China is just around the corner and the door is open for Asia’s top juniors to take advantage of the opportunities in front of them. The track record for rising stars from the JGTA is apparent, with many top-ranked juniors achieving success on the JGTA, on the AJGA, and ultimately signing to compete amongst the best of the best at American Universities.

The door is open for upwards of 78 juniors will step up to the tee next week. Some will grind to make the cut, and others will easily find themselves towards the top of the leaderboard – but this is just one stop on the tour, and they will need to prove themselves good enough with multiple great finishes to be rewarded with the best playing opportunities as a junior – the American Junior Golf Association.

When looking back at the paths of juniors who competed and played well in the JGTA, the mission works. Junyi Tang (2021) of Beijing China – JGTA Junior Order of Merit Champion, JGTA Taiwan Junior Championship winner, now University of Southern California commit. Kentaro Nanayama (2021) of Jakarta, Indonesia – Junior All-Asia Team Member, two-time JGTA champion, now Purdue University commit. Jana Ni (2021) of Beijing, China – Junior All-Asia Team Member, JGTA Taiwan Junior Championship Winner – University of California, Berkeley commit. Camille Boyd (2020) of (USA) Shanghai, China – JGTA Junior Order of Merit Champion, JGTA Bintan Lagoon Junior Championship winner – University of Washington Commit.

The list goes on and on and of course, all of these players went on to compete with great success on the AJGA circuit, leading to their college commitments.

A few special cases have arisen on the JGTA as well such as Yin Ho Yue (2018) of Hong Kong. Yue was already signed to play college golf at the University of Oregon when he made two starts on the JGTA. He used the JGTA to refine his skills in tournament competition and get prepped for his freshman year competing as a Duck.
