Round One Recap at #JGTAHongKong

Round one of the Hong Kong Junior Classic at Clearwater Bay has come to an end. Players from 11 countries are putting their skills to the test against one of the strongest fields in the history of junior golf in Asia and a local is currently on top. The top of the leader board is cramped with low scores and one thing is certain, it is going to take three days of impeccable play to take home a win.

In the Boy’s Division, Jui-Tung Wu (2021) of Kaohsiung, Taiwan holds the lead after firing 36-32 for a round of 2-under-par 68. Wu had 6 birdies on the day and he holds a one-shot lead heading into moving day. This is Wu’s second career JGTA event.

Three players sit tied for second place at 1-under-par 69 – Hsiao Che Yang (2021) of Tainan, Taiwan, Gabriel Hansel Hari (2021) of Jakarta, Indonesia, and 2017-2018 All-Asia Team Member Pongsapak Laopakdee (2023) of Rayong, Thailand.

In the Girl’s Division, Hong Kong local Chloe Chan (2021) holds the round one lead. Chan fired 35-34 for a first-round score of 1-under-par 69. Chan finished 5th in the 2018 Phuket Junior Open last season and if she holds on to win she would become the first JGTA champion from Hong Kong.

Hong Kong local Lok Yin Stephanie Wong (2021) sits in second place after shooting 35-35 for a score of even-par 70. Hoi Ki Lau (2022) of Hong Kong and Yuqi Liu (2023) of Beijing, China are tied for third place after shooting one-over-par scores of 71.

Round 2 of the JGTA Hong Kong Junior Classic at Clearwater Bay takes place tomorrow, February 21.
