Round Two of The Southern Junior presented by Tradewinds Furnishing

The second round of China’s first Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) event, The 2019 Southern Junior presented by Tradewinds Furnishing, taking place this week at Foshan Golf Club, has come to an end. Tomorrow, champions will be crowned.

In the Girl’s Division, Ieong Sin Kuan (2020) of Macau and Yiyang Xu (2021) of Shanghai, China are tied for the lead at -2 through the first two rounds. Kuan followed up her first-round score of 70 with an even-par score of 72. Xu followed up her first-round score of 73 with the lowest Girl’s Division score thus far, a 3-under-par 69.

Trailing Kuan and Xu are Irene Wang (2020) of Beijing, China and Yulin Chen (2021) of Guangzhou, China, at 1-over-par through two rounds.

In the Boy’s Division, Songge Jiang (2021) of Zhangjiagang, China has taken over the Boy’s Division lead, following up his first-round score of 71 with a 2-under-par 70. Jiang made four birdies on the day.

Racing up the leader board and trailing Jiang by one stroke is Hsiao Che Yang (2021) of Tainan, Taiwan, firing the lowest round in the Boy’s Division thus far, a 4-under-par 68. Yang was in the mix at the end of the Hong Kong Junior Classic and a win here would mark the first from a player from Taiwan. Round one leader Zhongyu (Zach) Zhang (2022) of Kunming, China is in 3rd with a second round score of 74 and a two-day total of 1-under-par 143.

Tomorrow will mark a crucial day in junior golf history when champions of the event will become the first to win on the Junior Golf Tour of Asia in China.

Set to take place April 2 – 4, The Southern Junior presented by Tradewinds Furnishing will be JGTA’s first in mainland China and the next stop on the Tour’s annual schedule of events. The host venue of the event is Foshan Golf Club, located in the city of Foshan, just outside Guangzhou, China.

About the Junior Golf Tour of Asia
The Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) is the governing body for competitive junior golf tournaments in the Asia-Pacific for young golfers to hone their skills at the highest level, developing into successful Collegiate athletes and future champions of the game. Members of the JGTA compete alongside other top-ranked players from across the region, who share similar competitive standings and aspirations for greatness.

JGTA tournaments are ranked on the JGTA Junior Order of Merit, the Tour’s official ranking system, and the source for AJGA PBE Status in the Asia-Pacific. Players earn Merit Points from their performance in JGTA events to improve their standing on the Junior Order of Merit. Following the end of each JGTA season (approx. June 1st), the top-performers (60 players total) are awarded AJGA PBE Status according to their final standing on the Junior Order Of Merit.

The JGTA strictly adheres to the competitive entry principles of its partners and the highest standards of performance based entry, to ensure the most competitive tournament fields at all times.
