AJGA Weekend Recap

This past weekend featured four AJGA tournaments. The tournaments were the Rome Junior Classic presented by State Mutual Insurance Company, the AJGA Preview at Meadowbrook, the AJGA Preview at Waubeeka and the AJGA Preview at Forsgate (Ages 12-15).

Coosa Country Club has hosted the Rome Junior Classic 18 times in history. This tournament marked the 21st edition since its inception in 1996. Aidan Kramer (2020) of Oviedo, Florida took home the title in the Boy’s Division after firing scores of 68-69-69 for a tournament total of seven-under-par 206. Kramer made eleven birdies over 54 holes in regulation. Megan Schofill (2019) of Monticello, Florida was crowned champion after shooting scores of 69-66-71 for a tournament total of seven-under-par 206. Her second-round 66 was the lowest score shot in the tournament.

In the second edition of the AJGA Preview at Meadowbrook, Borina Sutikto (2021) of Fremont, California took home the Girl’s Division title. She finished at eight-over-par with scores of 75-77, which was 6 strokes ahead of Ariel Chang (2021) of Macomb Twp, Michigan and Katelyn Kuc (2021) of Carmel, Indiana. Lukas Heckmann (2019) of Middleton, Wisconsin won the Boy’s Division with scores of 75-72 for a five-over-par tournament total of 147. He finished two strokes ahead of Tanner Moore (2019) of Byron Center, Michigan.

Jolo Timothy Magcalayo (2021) of Sta. Rosa, Philippines was crowned champion of the AJGA Preview at Waubeeka after firing back to back one-under-par 70s for a tournament total of two-under-par 140. Magcalayo finished three strokes ahead of James Allen (2020) of Scarsdale, New York and Max Dragon (2019) of (Canada) East Rochester, New York. Sofia Choi (2022) of Littleton, Colorado set the competitive course record at Waubeeka Golf Links after firing scores of 76-73 for a tournament total of seven-over-par 149. She finished nine strokes ahead of second-place finisher Catherine Zhang (2020) of (Canada) Toronto, Ontario.

The AJGA Preview at Forsgate in Monroe Township, New Jersey was won by Ava Lozito (2021) of Fairfield, New Jersey. Lozito finished one stroke ahead of Jade Gu (2021) of Yardley, Pennsylvania. Garrett Kessler (2021) of North Caldwell, New Jersey took home the Boy’s Division title with scores of 74-70. His second-round 70 tied the low score of the tournament. Matthew Simon (2021) of New York, New York and Nolan Pierce (2020) of (Canada) Whitby, Ontario finished tied for second.

A couple of weeks separates this past weekend’s excitement and what’s to come on the AJGA schedule. The next group of tournaments to take place are the highly coveted Thunderbird International Junior, the ACDS Dominican Junior Open presented by the Puntacana Resort & Club, the Leadbetter Junior Golf Academy Junior All-Star, the AJGA Las Vegas Junior at Reflection Bay presented by Live View Golf and the AJGA Preview at Château Élan.
