AJGA Weekend Recap

This week marked the first of the summer that a JGTA member was victorious on the AJGA circuit, and it came in one of the most selective tournaments, the KPMG Stacy Lewis Junior All-Star Invitational. The leaderboard was painted with great performances from top-ranked JGTA players.

On the Boy’s side, JGTA member Kuangyu Chen (2021) of (Australia) Shenzhen, China took the top spot by four strokes after firing 69-75-71. This is Chen’s first AJGA victory and impressively, it came in an invitational. Chen is currently 107th on the Rolex AJGA Rankings. All-Asia Team member and Junior Order of Merit Leader Junyi Tang (2021) of Beijing, China got off to slow start this week with a first-round score of 81. He clawed his way back, following up with 75-74, and managed to finish in the Top-10 (T9). This is Tang’s fifth AJGA top-10 finish and he is currently T125 on the Rolex AJGA Rankings. Tang captured his first JGTA victory this season at the JGTA Taiwan Junior Championship.

The winner of the Girl’s Division was Xin (Cindy) Kou (2021) of (China) Windermere, Florida. This marks Kou’s seventh AJGA victory. All-Asia Team member and JGTA Taiwan Junior Championship winner Jana Ni (2021) of Beijing, China shared the T8 spot with JGTA member Yu Wen Lu (2021) of Shanghai, China. Following closely behind in 12th place was All-Asia Team member and Junior Order of Merit leader Camille Boyd (2020) of (USA) Shanghai, China. Boyd captured her first JGTA victory this season at the JGTA Bintan Lagoon Junior Championship presented by dwell Student Living.

Steffi Chern (2020) of Hsinchu, Taiwan finished T5 at the AJGA Reno / Tahoe Junior at ArrowCreek this week. She shot 75-73-75 for a tournament total of seven-over par 223. This finish marks her best performance to date in an AJGA event. Chern made her JGTA debut at the JGTA Taiwan Junior Championship this season and placed T12.
