The Southern Junior

The first event of the Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) season marks the return of The Southern Junior featuring some of Asia’s rising stars of junior golf and future champions of the game. The competition is hot kicking off what is to be the best year on the JGTA yet.

Four of the 20 Junior All-Asia Team members from last season will tee it up at Zhuhai Golden Gulf Golf Club for the first time. These four have proven in the past that they had what it takes to put together a season of success, awarding them with the highest levels of AJGA PBE Status per their final ranking on the Junior Order of Merit last season. They will have to step up to the tee next week with a clean slate and they must show that they have what it takes to finish near the top of the Junior Order of Merit rankings once again to be rewarded.

These players are as follows:

  • Markus Lam (2023) of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR
  • Jui-Tung Wu (2021) of Kaohsiung, Taiwan
  • Hsiao Che Yang (2021) of Tainan, Taiwan
  • Yiyang Xu (2021) of Shanghai, China

Yiyang Xu came close to victory in last season’s edition of The Southern Junior. She lost in a sudden-death playoff against Junior All-Asia Team Member Ieong Sing Kuan (2020) of Macau.

As part of the JGTA’s initiative to grow the game, a few spots in the field are reserved for local players competing in the event. Local players competing this week include Zihao Wang (2024) and Xiaofeng Huang (2025).

There are no returning JGTA champions competing at The Southern Junior, leaving the door open for a boy and a girl to be etched in JGTA history.

Players from 11 countries and 7 graduating classes are ready to compete…Who has what it takes to bring home the trophies?
