Spring Season Underway - Multiple First Time Winners

The third week of the AJGA Spring season featured four tournaments including the AJGA Preview at Osprey Point, the AJGA Junior All-Star at Watters Creek, the Hana Financial Group, Se Ri Pak Junior Championship, and the AJGA Preview at Carlton Oaks.

AJGA Preview at Osprey Point

Thomas Christensen III (2019) of Coral Springs, Florida took home the trophy at the AJGA Preview at Osprey Point with scores of 73-65 for a tournament total of six-under-par 138. Christensen’s eight-birdie final round put him two strokes ahead of second place finisher Alan Klenor (2019) of (Czech Republic) Longboat Key, Florida and Britt Pero (2019) of Dunden, Florida finishing with scores of 71-69 and 70-70. Kelly Shanahan (2022) of Coral Springs, Florida, Rachel DeAngulo (2020) of Miami, Florida, and Maika Llarena Cervantes (2020) of Puebla, Mexico finished in a three-way tie of the lead in the Girl’s Division. Finishing with scores of 75-72, 74-73, and 77-70, Shanahan, DeAngulo and Cervantes finished with tournament totals of three-over-par 147.

AJGA Junior All-Star at Watters Creek

Next up in the spring season, Reid Baker (2020) of Statham Georgia was crowned champion of the AJGA Junior All-Star at Waters Creek after besting J. Holland Humphries (2021) of Austin, Texas in a playoff. Baker and Humphries entered a playoff with scores of 74-69 and 73-70, respectively. Trailing in third place was Kiko Francisco Coelho (2021) of Lisbon, Portugal, shooting scores of 71-73 for a tournament total of even-par 144. Yunxuan Zhang (2022) of Shenzhen, China won the Girl’s Division with scores of 69-73. Her four-birdie first round of 69 was the lowest round of the tournament in the Girl’s Division. She was trailed by Summer Lee (2024) of Plano, Texas, shooting scores of 71-72 for a tournament total of one-under-par 143.

Hana Financial Group Se Ri Pak Junior Championship

Sam Choi (2018) of (South Korea) Anaheim, California won the Hana Financial Group Se Ri Pak Junior Championship after finishing with scores of 66-70-69 for an impressive tournament total of 11-under-par 205. Trailing Choi was Michael Shaw (2019) of Pleasanton, California after shooting scores of 73-71-64 for a tournament total of eight-under-par 208. Yealimi Noh (2019) of Concord, California took home her fifth AJGA victory at the tournament with scores of 72-70-70 for a tournament total of four-under-par 212. This University of California, Los Angeles commit was trailed by Amari Avery (2022) of Riverside, California, shooting scores of 70-72-72 for a tournament total of two-under-par 214.

AJGA Preview at Carlton Oaks

Isaac Rodea (2019) of San Diego, California took home the title at the AJGA Preview at Carlton Oaks after posting scores of 70-74 for a tournament total of even-par 144. A three-birdie final round from Akira Isamaya (2020) of (Japan) Palo Alto, California pulled him within one stroke of entering a playoff with Rodea. Precious Saelee (2019) of Walnut, California took home the trophy in the girl’s division with scores of 73-72 for a tournament total of four-over-par 145. She carded three birdies in her final round and finished three strokes ahead of second place finisher Carly Strole (2020) of Avondale, Arizona. Strole shot scores of 72-76 for a tournament total of four-over-par 148.
