AJGA Weekend Recap

The first weekend of the AJGA Spring season of 2018 kicked off this past weekend and it was nothing short of exciting. The weekend featured four tournaments – the ANA Junior Inspiration, the Hunter Mahan Junior Championship presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star, the AJGA Preview at Brook Haven, and the AJGA Preview at Bentwater (Ages 12-15).

After shooting scores of 71, 69, and 69, Rose Zhang (2021) of Irvine, California took the trophy from a stacked field of competitors at the ANA Junior Inspiration. With a clutch birdie on her final hole, Zhang has earned herself an exemption into the LPGA’s first major of the year, the ANA Inspiration. Finishing 6-under-par, Ashley Menne (2020) of Surprise, Arizona took home the second-place title.

Champions of the Hunter Mahan Junior Championship presented by Baylor Scott & White Sports Performance Center at The Star were Anne Chen (2020) of (Australia) Sugar Land, Texas and George Duangmanee (2020) of Fairfax, Virginia. Chen finished 2 shots ahead of 2017 champion Hailey Jones after shooting scores of 69 and 70. Duangmanee won after shooting a pair of 69s, finishing two shots ahead of Austyn Reily (2019) of Pottsboro, Texas.

The class of 2019 dominated the AJGA Preview at Brook Haven this week. Dual Winners in both the Boy’s and Girl’s Divisions of the were Cade Walker (2019) of Montgomery, Texas, Rustyn Goolsby (2019) of Mt. Pleasant, Texas, Amanda Jones (2019) of College Station, Texas and Celine Niu (2019) of Newport Beach, Calif.

Alexis Escobedo (2021) of Amarillo, Texas and Eubin Shim (2021) of Waco, Texas were crowned dual champions of the AJGA Preview at Bentwater in the Girl’s Division after finishing with scores of 76-73. Shooting a seven-birdie 67 in his final round, Jason Beveridge (2022) of Houston, Texas took home the trophy in the Boy’s Division.
