Six AJGA events took place across the U.S. last week and members from Asia continued to show their stripes.

UHY Albany Junior
Ballston Spa Country Club in Ballston Spa, New York

With two top-10 finishes and two top-20 finishes, girls from the JGTA dominated at the AJGA event in Albany. Not to mention Qualifier, Yuqi Liu (2023) from Beijing, China who, in a playoff, shot a 74 to qualify into the tournament, making her second start in an AJGA Open event. Liu shot 78-74-84, finishing 28th overall.

Going low for the first round was Fuge Zhang (2021) of Tianjin, China who shot 69-74-78 for a tournament total of 221 finished tied for 7th. Zhang finished 24th in the Hong Kong Junior Classic earlier this February. Making her second top-10 finish this summer In the AJGA circuit is Guangzhou local, Wenlu Su who shot 74-73-76 for a tournament total of 223 and solo 9 finish. Su recently broke into the top 500 in the Rolex AJA Rankings at T522.

At T16 are two familiar faces to the JGTA, Mariel Isabella Tee (2020) of Pasig City, Philippines and Irene Wang (2020) of Beijing, China. Tee recently announced her verbal commitment to University at Albany (SUNY).

Three Boys from the JGTA qualified into the event and finished in the Top-25. These players were Kaijun Ma (2022) of Macau, Gordon Lu (2022) of (New Zealand) Guangzhou, China, and Te-Lun Hsu (2021) of Taipei, Taiwan.

Bass Pro Shops / Payne Stewart Junior Championship
Buffalo Ride Springs Golf Course in Hollister, Missouri

Leading the charge at the ­Bass Pro Shops/ Payne Stewart Junior Championship in the Girl’s Division was Jiaobo Song (2022) of Shanghai, China. Song shot 71-74-72 to finish 8th overall. This is Song’s second Top-10 finish in an AJGA event this year, her first being T6 at the AJGA Junior at Gleneagles.

Winning the qualifier and finishing 10th overall was Yingzhi Zhu (2022) of (China) Austin, Texas. Zhu is having an incredible summer season and she currently holds a Rolex AJGA Ranking of 147.

Greenwood Junior Championship 
The Links at Stoney Point in Greenwood, SC 

Two Current or former Junior All-Asia Team members, Yiyang Xu (2021) of Shanghai, China and Wen Qi Zhu (2019) of Shanghai, China finished in the Top-20 at the Greenwood Junior Championship.

Richmond University commit Wen Qi Zhu finished in 11th place with scores of 78-75-78. Zhu was a standout performer on the JGTA in the 2017-2018 season.

Xu finished 19th overall with scores of 80-75-83. Xu made a name for herself this season on the JGTA and has a current Rolex AJGA Ranking of 260.

AJGA Junior at Knollwood presented by Yoder Oil
Knollwood Country Club – West Course 

Yulin Chen (2021) of Guangzhou, China has once again finished in the Top-10 of an AJGA event, this time T10 at the AJGA Junior at Knollwood presented by Yoder Oil. She fired 77-82-77 in route to this finish and performed best out of the many JGTA competitors in the field.

Closely behind Chen was this year’s Junior Order of Merit and JGTA Bintan Lagoon Junior Championship presented by Tradewinds Furnishing Champion Amy Gao (2021) of Shanghai, China as well as Yiting Pan (2021) of Shanghai, China.

Finishing in the Top-20 on the Boy’s side was Boyi (Barry) Zhang (2021) of Beijing, China firing 74-76-74 after qualifying for the tournament.

About the Junior Golf Tour of Asia
The Junior Golf Tour of Asia (JGTA) is the governing body for competitive junior golf tournaments in the Asia-Pacific for young golfers to hone their skills at the highest level, developing into successful Collegiate athletes and future champions of the game. Members of the JGTA compete alongside other top-ranked players from across the region, who share similar competitive standings and aspirations for greatness.

JGTA tournaments are ranked on the JGTA Junior Order of Merit, the Tour’s official ranking system, and the source for AJGA PBE Status in the Asia-Pacific. Players earn Merit Points from their performance in JGTA events to improve their standing on the Junior Order of Merit. Following the end of each JGTA season (approx. June 1st), the top-performers (60 players total) are awarded AJGA PBE Status according to their final standing on the Junior Order Of Merit.

The JGTA strictly adheres to the competitive entry principles of its partners and the highest standards of performance based entry, to ensure the most competitive tournament fields at all times.
